In Their Own Story

At a flea market, April O'Neil buys gifts for the Turtles: an old lamp for Michelangelo, an old radio for Donatello, a book on swords for Leonardo, and a fedora hat for Raphael. She also gives Splinter an ancient Japanese scepter. When the scepter lights up, April is sent into the past to 1603 feudal Japan, swapping places with Kenshin, Lord Norinaga's son. Walker, an English trader, imprisons April after deducing she is not a witch and is powerless. The Turtles travel back in time to rescue her, finding her in Norinaga's castle. They free her and also free Whit, a prisoner resembling Casey Jones. In the woods, April and the Turtles are attacked by villagers mistaking them for Norinaga's forces. Mitsu, the rebel leader, unmasks Raphael and realizes Michelangelo is her captive. The Turtles, April, and Whit accompany Mitsu to her village, where Walker's men are burning it. The Turtles help the villagers, and Michelangelo saves Mitsu's younger brother Yoshi from a burning house. April witnesses the Turtles earn the villagers' gratitude and respect. Later, Whit betrays everyone, captures Mitsu, and steals the scepter. The Turtles go to the palace to rescue Mitsu, free all prisoners, and after a lengthy battle, Leonardo defeats Lord Norinaga in a sword duel. Walker escapes with the scepter but is trapped at the boat dock; Whit launches a flaming boulder from a wooden catapult at Walker, knocking him off the dock to his death. Michelangelo and Raphael want to stay in the past, but Mitsu reminds Michelangelo of his promise to return Kenshin to his own time. Michelangelo reluctantly agrees, but misses grabbing the scepter and is left behind. The remaining honor guard activates the scepter and swaps places with Michelangelo just before the scepter burns out. April returns to the present with the Turtles.
